The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that the Cecil B. DeMille Award, to be given out during the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards Jan. 12, 2014, will be given to director Woody Allen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The awards ceremony, taking place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, will air live on NBC.

Said HFPA President Theo Kingma: “There is no one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen. His contributions to filmmaking have been phenomenal and he truly is an international treasure.”

Recent recipients of the DeMille Award have included Jody Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

In its announcement the HFPA noted: "Woody Allen is the prolific writer/director of over 45 films including such revered and iconic works as ‘Annie Hall,’ ‘Manhattan,’ ‘The Purple Rose of Cairo,’ and ‘Hannah and Her Sisters’; as well as recent critical and box office hits such as ‘Match Point,’ ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ and ‘Midnight in Paris,’ for which he won both the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Screenplay — Motion Picture and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay."

Allen’s latest effort, “Blue Jasmine,” is currently in theaters.
