In an interview for the new issue of Rolling Stone, singer Miley Cyrus says her performance on MTV’s Video Music Awards "could have even gone further, but we didn’t," referring to her infamous twerk-fest that led to a number of complaints to the FCC for her sexual poses.

Cyrus said she didn’t expect the angry reaction to her performance, noting: "It’s not the Grammys or the Oscars. You’re not supposed to show up in a gown, Vanna White-style." She added: "It’s supposed to be fun!"

The former star of "Hannah Montana" said her performance with singer Robin Thicke got "handsy," but complained that no one criticized Thicke.

"No one is talking about the man behind the ass. It was a lot of ‘Miley twerks on Robin Thicke,’ but never, ‘Robin Thicke grinds up on Miley.’ They’re only talking about the one that bent over. So obviously there’s a double standard," she told the magazine.

Brooke Shields’ criticism of her performance as "desperate" sparked some amusement from Cyrus. (Shields played Cyrus’ mother on "Hannah Montana.")

"Brooke Shields was in a movie where she was a prostitute at age 12!" Cyrus said.

She continued: "America is just so weird in what they think is right and wrong. Like, I was watching ‘Breaking Bad’ the other day, and they were cooking meth. I could literally cook meth because of that show. It’s a how-to. And then they bleeped out the word ‘fuck.’ And I’m like, really? They killed a guy, and disintegrated his body in acid, but you’re not allowed to say ‘fuck’? It’s like when they bleeped ‘molly’ at the VMAs. Look what I’m doing up here right now, and you’re going to bleep out ‘molly’? Whatever."

Cyrus continues what some observers have described as her overexposure campaign with her naked cover feature on Rolling Stone, as previously reported.
