A TV producer behind a string of successful shows is joining the board of trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. TheWrap.com reports that "Grey’s Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes was selected by President Obama to serve on the board.

Rhimes, who is also the writer and producer of the Washington, D.C.-based drama "Scandal," is one of six new appointments made by Obama to the Kennedy Center board.

The others are Entravision Communications Chief Executive Walter F. Ulloa; Frank F. Islam, CEO of FI Investment Group; Amalia Perea Mahoney, director of Chicago’s Galeria Amalia Mahoney, an art gallery specializing in Latin American Art; David M. Rubenstein, co-ceo of The Carlyle Group; and Alexandra C. Stanton, CEO of Empire Global Ventures.

Other members on the 32-member board include Caroline Kennedy and former CBS reporter Giselle Fernandez, along with other business and arts figures, the story notes.

Rhimes is also behind the "Grey’s Anatomy" spinoff "Private Practice," and had a hand in the short-lived 2011 ABC medical drama "Off the Map."
