A comedy series that is reviled by critics has received a full-season order from Fox. The Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports that the network added nine episodes to its order for "Dads," bringing the Seth MacFarlane series to 22 episodes.

The show "made its fall debut with bad buzz already in the air, with many condemning it as racist," the Times reports. "Despite the harsh reviews, its modest ratings haven’t worked against it just yet."

While the series’ ratings have been relatively soft on Tuesday nights, the show has proved consistent and performed above "The Mindy Project" among viewers 18-49. "Dads" recently drew 3.61 million viewers in the demographic segment, compared with 2.86 million for "Mindy," the piece notes.

In a statement, Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said: "Fox has been looking to break into the multi-camera format for some time. With ‘Dads,’ we have an asset that we can grow, and we’re looking forward to seeing where the fantastic cast and the creative minds of [executive producers] Seth, Alec [Sulkin], Mike [Scully] and Wellesley [Wild] take us the rest of the season.”

The series stars Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi.
