An actress who won an Emmy for a role on ABC is set to return to broadcast TV — on CBS this time. TheWrap.com reports that former "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera has been cast as a crusading nun in "Damascus," a project that has received a put-pilot commitment from CBS.

"Damascus" landed at CBS after a bidding war involving multiple networks, the story notes. Ferrera will play a nun who uses legal skills on behalf of social justice issues, helping the less fortunate.

Ferrera is also executive producing, along with former "Ugly Betty" executive producer Teri Weinberg, the story says. Ferrera won a Primetime Emmy in 2007 as outstanding lead actress in a comedy for "Ugly Betty," also winning a Golden Globe the same year.
