Fans Have a Problem With Melissa McCarthy's Elle Cover -- See for Yourself US Magazine, Slate

The cover of the November issue of Elle magazine, featuring "Mike & Molly" star Melissa McCarthy, has some fans of the actress up in arms. US Magazine reports that they've been complaining because McCarthy is covered by a large overcoat and sports a hairstyle that obstructs part of her face.

Other actresses featured in the November "Women in Hollywood" issue are given much more exposure, such as Reese Witherspoon, who is featured in a form-fitting black outfit.

As Slate's June Thomas wrote, "Perhaps photographer Thomas Whiteside only knows how to photograph the usual stick insect models, because he clearly has no clue how to highlight McCarthy’s curves."

Thomas adds that despite the enthusiasm some people have for Elle's decision to put a plus-sized woman on the cover, "Should Elle really get credit for this?"

Elle defended its approach, saying in a statement, "On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different: Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover."
