Intense 1992 Psychological Thriller Set to Become TV Series THR
A psychological thriller that scared the heck out of audiences in 1992 is in the works for a TV adaptation. The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed reports that the feature film "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" is in development as a series at ABC Family.
The movie was about a young, attractive and unstable nanny, played by Rebecca De Mornay, who terrorizes a family.
The TV project is from Daniel Loflin of "Supernatural," who will write and executive produce, along with Radar Pictures. Ted Field of Radar, who was an executive producer on the original movie, and Mike Weber will serve as executive producers.
"The move comes as the TV landscape continues to embrace darker fare, a trend that has breakout hits from AMC's 'The Walking Dead' to FX's 'American Horror Story' to thank for generating momentum," the report notes. "ABC Family recently announced it was developing 'The Final Girls,' a horror-thriller starring Jamie Lee Curtis, and has the second half of first-year murder-thriller 'Twisted' returning in January."
