Los Angeles to Waive Fees for TV Pilots

Oct 16, 2013  •  Post A Comment

An ordinance that will waive fees on television pilots is close to becoming reality, with the Los Angeles City Council approving the measure Tuesday, Daily Variety reports.

Mayor Eric Garcetti plans to sign the ordinance, according to a spokesman. That’s not surprising, given that he introduced the measure last year, the piece notes.

"Garcetti has said that the fee waiver and other steps are necessary to smooth production headaches, even if the production incentives offered by the state are a much greater enticement," the story says.

During the 2012-13 season, 96 out of 186 pilots were taped in the Los Angeles area, with FilmLA noting that the city is losing market share when it comes to drama series production.
