‘Saturday Night Live’ Cast Member Says the Show Should Add More Diversity

Asked about "Saturday Night Live’s" lack of black cast members, one of the show’s current cast members says the show needs to "pay attention," according to an interview with The Grio.

The cast member, Jay Pharoah, is one of only two black actors on the show with 16 cast members, and says he’d like the program to bring on board a black woman. He has someone in mind: Darmirra Brunson.

"Why do I think she should be on the show? Because she’s black first of all, and she’s really talented. She’s amazing. She needs to be on ‘SNL.’ I said it. And I believe they need to follow up with it like they said they were going to do last year," he told the publication.

Brunson is currently appearing on Tyler Perry’s "Love Thy Neighbor," which airs on OWN.

"As far as being a black person on the show, there’s not a lot of us, you know?" Pharoah said. He added, "So actually, when you’re on here, it’s kind of cool. What can you say? We’re in a very coveted position.”

  1. “Because she’s black first of all, and she’s really talented.” Shouldn’t those be reversed?
