Chernin Entertainment is developing a U.S. drama series based on a Swedish novel called "De Redan Doda," by Robert Karjel, Deadline.com reports.

The story says the project is in the vein of the popular "Millennium" trilogy by Swedish novelist Stieg Larsson, which was developed into the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" feature film franchise.

The new project, "The Swede," is about a Swedish secret service agent who is asked by the U.S. to interrogate someone also believed to be Swedish, the story notes. Instead, he gets pulled into a complicated investigation that touches on everything from the 2004 tsunami to a terrorist attack in Kansas.

"’De Redan Doda’ was a hot title at the Frankfurt Book Fair earlier this month and was acquired by HarperCollins for publication in the U.S.," the piece adds.
