Veteran TV Actress Dead at 89

A veteran television actress with a career going back to the 1950s has died. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mary Carver, best known for playing the mother of the title brothers on "Simon & Simon," died at 89.

Carver played Cecilia Simon on 153 episodes of the 1980s drama, which focused on two brothers operating a detective agency, the story notes.

Carver had a number of TV appearances in the 1950s, including guest roles on "Whirlybirds," "Black Saddle" and "The Donna Reed Show." Later TV work included "McCloud," "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and a number of appearances on "Gunsmoke." She was also seen on "Quincy: M.E.," "Star Trek: Enterprise" and "ER," among many other shows.

On film, she appeared in movies including "From Here to Eternity" (1953) and "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" (1977).
