ABC Cancels Series THR
ABC has pulled the plug on one of its new fall shows, and also announced full-season orders for two new comedy series. The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed reports that the network is canceling the comedy series "Back in the Game."
The show, which stars James Caan and Maggie Lawson, is a semi-autobiographical baseball comedy from brothers and executive producers Mark and Robb Cullen. It has been averaging 7.2 million viewers with a 2.1 rating in the key 18-49 demo in Live + 7 DVR viewing, the report notes.
The series will air the rest of its original 13-episode order.
ABC has given full-season orders to the comedies "The Goldbergs" and "Trophy Wife," and has also ordered four more episodes of "Super Fun Night," THR reports.
"The Goldbergs," a comedy set in the 1980s, has averaged 7.5 million total viewers and a 2.7 rating in adults 18-49 in Live + 7. "Trophy Wife" is averaging 5.7 million total viewers and a 1.9 rating, but has also earned a positive response from critics, the story says. Both shows are part of ABC's all-new Tuesday schedule.
Meanwhile, "Super Fun Night" is drawing an average of 7.4 million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It airs on Wednesday nights.
"ABC has comedy 'Mixology' and dramas 'Mind Games,' 'Killer Women' and 'Resurrection' on the bench," the report adds.
