The popular period drama "Downton Abbey" has received a fifth-season renewal, after the series ended its fourth season in the U.K. with record ratings, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The season finale drew an average audience of 9.8 million, representing 40% of people watching television in the U.K. at that time. That makes the finale the highest-rated drama on British television so far this year, the piece adds.

The fifth season will be written by creator Julian Fellowes, and executive produced by Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge and Fellowes, according to EW.com’s Inside TV.
