Another period drama is in development for broadcast television. Deadline.com reports that the project, set in 1880s Paris, is in the works at the CW, which already has the Mary, Queen of Scots drama "Reign" on the air.

The new project, "The Painted Girls," is based on the book of the same name by Cathy Marie Buchanan, which is about three sisters enrolled at a top ballet academy. One of them becomes a muse for the painter Edgar Degas. At the same time, a serial killer is on the loose in Paris.

Dan Jinks of "Pushing Daisies" is executive producing, while Tony-nominated playwright Geoffrey Nauffts will write the adaptation and co-executive produce. The project is from CBS TV Studios.
