NBC has ordered a comedy series starring a comedian who has been a part of the TV landscape for decades. Deadline.com reports that the network ordered 12 episodes of "Working the Engels," which will star Andrea Martin.

Martin was a mainstay of the sketch comedy show "SCTV, which had a run on Canadian television going back to the 1970s and aired on NBC in the early 1980s. She also has a career on stage and in movies, including "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." She recently won a Tony Award as best featured actress in a musical for "Pippin."

Martin’s other TV work includes "Sesame Street," where she’s Wanda the Word Fairy, and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."

The new comedy series, written and created by Katie Ford and Jane Ford, is about a family that has to come together to keep financially solvent when its bread-winning father passes away, the story reports. Martin will play the family matriarch.

The project is co-produced by NBC with Core Media/Noreen Halpern’s Halfire-CORE Entertainment, and Canada’s Shaw Media, the story says.
