NBC Fends Off Poaching Attempt by ABC, Renews Deal With 'Today' Host THR
NBC News has renewed its deal with one of the co-hosts of the "Today" show, fending off an attempt by ABC News to lure her away. The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed reports that NBC inked a new deal with Hoda Kotb that will keep her together with Kathie Lee Gifford on the show's fourth hour.
Kotb will also continue to appear on other NBC News outlets, such as "Dateline," the report adds.
The deal comes after Kotb considered an offer from ABC News that would have included a role on "The View." The morning talk show is casting its net during a current transition period, including recently bringing aboard Jenny McCarthy, with a huge change looming when mainstay Barbara Walters retires at the end of this season.
"For NBC News, re-signing Kotb keeps the fourth hour of 'Today' intact. The final hour of the morning franchise -- which airs at 10 a.m. in most markets -- ranks well against its daytime competition, with Kotb and Gifford proving of considerable appeal to daytime's target audience of women 25-54," the piece notes.
