Report: Liberty Global in Talks to Buy Intel's TV Service Bloomberg
European cable operator Liberty Global is in discussions to buy Intel Corp.'s online pay-TV service, which is in development, reports Bloomberg.
Liberty Global, which owns Virgin Media in the U.K. and operates in Germany and other countries, would use the system outside the U.S., the piece notes.
"Liberty Global’s interest creates competition for the advanced set-top box being developed by Intel since at least early 2012," the story reports. "The chipmaker, which promised to offer service this year, balked at making the significant programming investments on its own, and began looking for partners."
Verizon Communications was said to be in talks to buy the project at an earlier point.
