Three men and a woman were arrested Tuesday in New York in connection with an inquiry into the death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, reports The New York Times, citing a law enforcement official.

The suspects were found with more than 350 bags of heroin at three apartments at 302 Mott Street, the official said.

The story reports: “Information stemming from the investigation into Mr. Hoffman’s death led them to the building, the official said. Mr. Hoffman, widely considered one of the best actors of his generation, died on Sunday in an apparent heroin overdose."

Hoffman died about a mile from where the arrests were made. He was found with packages of heroin that were branded with the label “Ace of Spades,” but the bags in the arrest didn’t have those types of labels, the story notes, citing the official.

"Earlier Tuesday, police officials said that the heroin found in Mr. Hoffman’s apartment did not contain fentanyl, a powerful additive that has been tied to 22 recent fatal overdoses in Pennsylvania. The city medical examiner had not yet reached a definitive cause of death for the actor," the story reports.

Meanwhile, the actor’s family issued a statement saying plans are in the works for a private funeral service in New York for “the family and close friends," adding that plans are also under way for "a memorial service later in the month also to be held in New York."
