BBC America Orders Companion Series for 'Top Gear' Variety
BBC America has ordered a show that it will pair with its wildly popular car series "Top Gear." Variety reports that the cable channel greenlighted eight episodes of the unscripted series “Mud, Sweat and Gears," described as a "vehicle transformation" show.
The hourlong program is hosted by British car journalists Tom "Wookie" Ford and Jonny Smith, and features teams given 24 hours to change an ordinary vehicle into one capable of taking on stunts, the story notes.
The program will join BBC America’s “Top Gear” on Monday nights, with the new show following the long-running car series, the piece adds. "Top Gear" is in its 21st season.
The report adds: "In addition to BBC America, 'Mud, Sweat and Gears' will be launched across the BBC’s international channels. It is also the first commission to be announced for the new male-skewing factual entertainment channel BBC Brit, set to bow in markets outside of the U.S. this year."
