A Golden Globe-nominated actress has landed one of the most high-profile comedy roles among the current crop. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that CBS cast Greta Gerwig, a Golden Globe nominee for her role in the feature “Frances Ha,” as the star of its “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff “How I Met Your Dad."

Gerwig will also be credited as a producer, and is expected to write if the project moves to series, the story adds.

Gerwig’s character, Sally, is described as a female Peter Pan who realizes she doesn’t have anything in common with her new husband, although she doesn’t know where she’s going in life, the story says.

The piece adds: “A breakup is inevitable, but Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who often are too willing to give ‘good’ advice that can backfire badly. Meanwhile, Sally must filter out the input and decide what’s best for her.”

Gerwig has made a mark in indie films both in front of and behind the camera, notably in the mumblecore subgenre. Among her credits, she co-wrote "Frances Ha," co-directed "Nights and Weekends" and was one of the stars of Russell Brand’s 2011 "Arthur" remake. She also appeared in the Natalie Portman-Ashton Kutcher film "No Strings Attached."
