'Friends' Star Owes Manager $1.6 Million THR

A jury has ruled that one of the stars of the NBC hit “Friends” owes her former manager $1.6 million. The Hollywood Reporter’s Hollywood, Esq., reports that the jury on Wednesday ordered Lisa Kudrow to pay the money to her ex-manager Scott Howard.

“In a long-running case, Howard sued the ‘Friends’ star in 2008 after being terminated the year earlier,” the story reports. “The manager contended that he was owed 5 percent of her earnings from continuing residuals of work negotiated when Howard was representing Kudrow.”

The report adds: “The two operated under an oral agreement, and Kudrow disputed that there was any understanding of this arrangement. At trial, Howard pointed to the customs and practices in the entertainment industry.”

Kudrow’s attorney, Gerard Sauer, said after the ruling: “The jury’s verdict is merely one step in the legal process. This case ultimately will be resolved at the appellate level. Ms. Kudrow has faith in the judicial system, and she believes that the eventual outcome of this contractual dispute will be in her favor.”
