A series project is in development about the Manson Family murders, with some high-profile principals involved. TheWrap.com reports that Fox is working with writer Bret Easton Ellis and musician and director Rob Zombie on the project, which is being developed as an event series.

The project is in very early development, the story notes. Ellis is slated to write the script, while Zombie will direct.

The project will track different characters whose fates intersect around the 1969 murders ordered by cult leader Charles Manson, the piece notes. “Actress Sharon Tate, who was pregnant with husband director Roman Polanski’s child, was one of those murdered in the mass slaying in Los Angeles,” the story adds.

Over the years a number of TV shows have explored Manson and the notorious murders. Most notably, in 1976, over two nights, CBS ran the 194-minute TV movie "Helter Skelter," which was based on the book of the same name co-written by Vincent Bugliosi, who prosecuted the Manson case. It starred Steve Railsback, who was scarily chilling as Manson.
