A Jonas brother is trying to leave his Disney Channel past behind him by signing on for a gritty DirecTV project, reports Nellie Andreeva on Deadline.com.

Nick Jonas has been cast in “Navy St.,” in which he will play a professional boxer. The role is his first major series job, the piece notes.

The show is set at Navy Street, a mixed martial arts gym in Venice, Calif., owned by a former fighter, played by Frank Grillo. His girlfriend will be played by Kiele Sanchez, while Jonas will portray Nate Henderson, the youngest son of the gym’s owner.

Filming will start in May for a fall debut, the story says.
