CBS Muscles Out NBC as 'The Voice' Hits a Sour Note TVbytheNumbers
CBS got a solid ratings performance from its Tuesday night drama lineup as NBC's "The Voice" sank to a season low, giving CBS a narrow win for prime time, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo.
TVbytheNumbers.com reports that NBC, which was winning Tuesday nights earlier in the season, saw its franchise singing competition lose three-tenths of a point from a week ago to settle for a 3.3 average in the 18-49 demo -- still the top show on broadcast prime in the demo. The show averaged 12.29 million total viewers going head-to-head with CBS's "NCIS," which pulled in 17.28 million, the highest average of the night.
Leading out from "The Voice," NBC's "About a Boy" slipped one-tenth to a 2.0 in the 18-49 demo while "Growing Up Fisher" also lost one-tenth, delivering a 1.7. NBC aired a repeat of "Chicago Fire" at 10 p.m. (1.0 average).
CBS's prime-time programs were up across the board: "NCIS" inched up one-tenth from last week to a 2.5 average in 18-49; "NCIS: Los Angeles" also ticked up one-tenth, to a 2.4; and "Person of Interest" climbed three-tenths to a 2.0.
Fox had its own ratings issues, as "New Girl" fell one-tenth from its previous original in the 18-49 demo to an all-time low, a 1.2. "Glee" held steady to last week with a 1.1, and the season finale of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" lifted itself up after a series low a week ago, rising two-tenths to a 1.3 average.
ABC aired mostly repeats and finished a distant fifth among the broadcast nets, with its only fresh program, "Mind Games" at 10 p.m., falling one-tenth in viewers 18-49 to a 0.6.
For prime time overall, CBS took the win in the 18-49 demo with a 2.3 average rating, ahead of NBC (2.1 average), Fox and Univision (both with 1.2 averages) and ABC and CW (both at 0.7). CBS had a dominant night in terms of total viewers, averaging 15.0 million to finish well ahead of NBC (7.8 million), Univision (3.0 million), Fox (2.6 million), ABC (2.4 million) and CW (1.8 million).
