CMT Renews Show That Was Bashed by 'Dukes of Hazzard's' Cooter Deadline

CMT plans to keep the party going, picking up another season of a show that drew its share of criticism -- including a high-profile tirade from the actor who played Cooter on "The Dukes of Hazzard."

Deadline.com reports that the cable channel ordered a second season of “Party Down South,” with the season scheduled to premiere June 5.

The new 13-episode season will be teased in an advance first-look that will air after the 2014 CMT Music Awards June 4, the report notes. The show is the network’s highest-rated original series yet, despite -- or because of -- ongoing controversy over its raucous content.

As previously reported, Ben Jones, who portrayed the mechanic Cooter on "Dukes” and at one time was a Georgia congressman, lashed out against the show earlier this year. Jones called the show “cultural pornography” and asked the network to stop promoting the reality show during repeats of “Dukes of Hazzard” episodes.
