CNN Finally Has Some Ratings News It Can Brag About

It’s been a long dry spell for CNN when it comes to good ratings news, but the cable news channel finally has something it can call a win.

Deadline.com reports that the channel’s media-focused show "Reliable Sources," with ex-New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter newly installed as anchor, beat its competition on Fox News Channel, "MediaBuzz."

Sunday’s installment of "Reliable Sources" edged "MediaBuzz" by 21,000 viewers in the key 25-54 news demo, the piece reports.

"’Reliable Sources’‘ 193,000 demo viewers put it 21,000 viewers ahead of ‘MediaBuzz’ at 11 a.m.; in overall audience, ‘MediaBuzz’ (881,000 viewers), helmed by former ‘Reliable Sources’ host Howard Kurtz, enjoyed a big advantage over ‘RS’ (384,000) as has his show every week," the story notes.

This isn’t the first time the CNN program has edged its FNC rival in the key demo. The report notes that it’s the third time since Kurtz debuted his show in September. But this was the first demo win for "RS" since Stelter took over for Kurtz.

"Kurtz still typically doubles Stelter in demo and nearly triples him in total viewers — hence, today’s headlines," the report adds.
