Late-Night Show Has Its Best Numbers Ever TVWeek

One late-night show appeared to get a big boost from Sunday night's high-rated coverage of the Academy Awards on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel's post-Oscars edition of his ABC late-night show delivered the best ratings ever for a "Jimmy Kimmel Live" program, ABC reported.

Airing from 12:42-1:37 a.m., the ninth annual "Jimmy Kimmel Live -- After the Oscars" saw its numbers rise for the third consecutive year and grew by double digits in total viewers (+22%: 6.993 million vs. 5.736 million) and adults 18-49 (+20%: 2.423 million vs. 2.026 million), based on Nielsen True Fast Nationals.

"Among all 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' broadcasts, Sunday’s post-Oscar show delivered the ABC late-night program’s best numbers ever for any single-day telecast in either late-night or prime time in both total viewers (6.993 million) and adults 18-49 (2.423 million)," the network announced.

ABC also noted: "In each of the Top 3 U.S. Markets (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago), 'JKL: After the Oscars' outperformed the final telecast of NBC’s 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' (on 2/6/14) and the post-Olympics debut of 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' (on 2/17/14) in both Households and Adults 18-49."

Kevin Spacey, the star of Netflix's "House of Cards" and a two-time Oscar winner, was a guest on the show.
