OWN is canceling a show that was part of the network’s inaugural programming slate. Deadline.com reports that the cable channel will pull the plug on the documentary series “Our America with Lisa Ling” after its fifth season.

The network’s original programming lineup had a goal of providing unscripted series that empowered women, the piece notes. The show was the only program not hosted by OWN’s Oprah Winfrey that managed to draw a healthy audience.

“Our America” also helped the network by drawing a positive critical response. The network found a second ratings success in 2011, when it aired “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” which also marked the network’s turn to scripted shows and a deal with Tyler Perry.

The fifth and final season of “Our America” will premiere May 29 and will run for 10 episodes. Its topics will include gun violence in Philadelphia and HIV in the African-American community.
