The white tiger that attacked Siegfried & Roy’s Roy Horn has died, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The tiger, Mantecore — whose name is often reported as Montecore — was 17 and died after a short illness.

Despite being mauled by the tiger, Horn said in a statement issued to the publication: “The world has lost one of its most majestic creatures, and I have lost a brother.”

In 2003, Mantecore hauled Horn offstage during a performance and caused injuries that left him seriously wounded and suffering from severe blood loss. Horn ended up with 25% of his skull removed.

“I will forever believe it was his concern for my safety and well-being that caused him to act as he did on that night long ago. We spent many hours together, and he never failed to bring me great joy and wonderment," Horn said.
