A longtime TV executive who has played a major role in elevating Showtime’s programming has just been elevated himself. B&C reports that David Nevins received a promotion to president of Showtime Networks, along with an extension of his contract through 2018.

His new role will include overseeing sports, marketing, creative and digital-media units, the piece notes. Since 2010, Nevins had served as entertainment president for Showtime.

“David Nevins is one of the most talented executives working in television today,” said Showtime Chairman and CEO Matthew C. Blank. “His arrival at Showtime was followed by an incredible period of renewal for our network, and these transformative years have led to critical acclaim, consistent buzz, subscriber growth and awards recognition.”

Under Nevins, the pay-TV network created shows such as “House of Lies” and “Shameless,” with both recently renewed. Nevins also greenlighted the shows “Homeland” and “Ray Donovan.”
