Ted Turner Hospitalized

CNN founder Ted Turner was rushed to a hospital Friday after spending time at his holiday ranch in southern Argentina. Bloomberg reports that Turner, 75, was admitted to a Buenos Aires hospital for appendicitis surgery.

His spokesman, Phillip Evans, said Turner was hospitalized “for observation,” but declined to comment on his treatment or his ailment, CNN reports. “It is our policy not to comment on his personal health,” he said.

Turner was initially treated at a clinic in Bariloche, a lakeside city near Chile, but was diagnosed with appendicitis. Given that he was recommended to have surgery, he was flown that same day to Buenos Aires to have the operation, CNN says, citing Argentina’s state-run Telam news agency.

"Turner, who owns three ranches in Argentina’s Patagonia region spread over more than 125,000 acres, turned CNN into one of the U.S.’s biggest cable-television systems before selling it to Time Warner Inc. in 1996," Bloomberg notes. "He also founded the Turner Foundation, which seeks to protect and restore the natural world, according to the organization’s website."
