One of the stars of the ABC drama series "Scandal" is off the show following brushes with the law. Deadline.com reports that Columbus Short is leaving the series following his arrest over an alleged restaurant brawl and accusations by his wife that he threatened to kill her.

“The fate of Short’s character, lawyer Harrison Wright, was left up in the air in the third season finale of the Kerry Washington-starring drama where he was last seen at B613 with a gun to his head,” the story reports.

The actor’s option wasn’t picked up, which was widely expected following his entanglements with law enforcement, the piece notes.

Through his publicist, Short said in a statement: “Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for [show creator] Shonda [Rhimes], Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful.”
