After Two Key Defections, ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ Adds a Major Player

You have to have a scorecard to keep up with the lineup changes at ABC's segment leader "Good Morning America." Following the defections of "GMA's" Josh Elliott to NBC Sports and Sam Champion to The Weather Channel — and the replacement of Elliott with Amy Robach — "GMA" is making another addition to its on-air roster.

Michael Strahan, the 42-year-old former New York Giants defensive end and current co-host of “Live with Kelly and Michael,” is set to join “Good Morning America” for a few days a week, the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports.

Strahan will still remain with “Live with Kelly and Michael,” which airs at 9 a.m, and will appear as part of “GMA's" current ensemble, not as a replacement, the piece notes.

“ABC News executives are said to have begun talks with Strahan months ago, pleased with his performance during the times he substituted for Robin Roberts last year while she was out on sick leave, and [the talks] heated up in recent weeks,” the article reports.

Strahan’s start date isn’t known, the report notes.
