CBS, which appears to be in the process of a complete overhaul of its late-night programming, is considering hiring a woman for “The Late Late Show,” reports Bloomberg, citing an interview with CBS chief Leslie Moonves.
“12:30 is up in the air,” Moonves told the publication in an interview. “Obviously, we’re considering all sorts of candidates and women are among them. A woman would be great in late-night.”
CBS is also considering retaining its current “Late Late Show” host, Craig Ferguson, whose contract expires in June. Chelsea Handler has signaled her interest in the role, with her contract at E! expiring at the end of this year, the piece adds.
“Late shows that start past midnight, technically making them the earliest of the morning programs, give lesser-known comics an opportunity to make a mark,” the story notes. It points out that Conan O’Brien, David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon all started in late-night on shows starting past midnight.
