CNN’s new prime-time schedule shifts the network further from hard news and out of the talk-show genre in the 9 p.m. hour, which is a crucial time slot for cable news, reports the Los Angeles Times.

CNN will switch between original series and documentaries in the 9 p.m. hour, the piece reports. The time slot was where “Larry King Live” once aired, but CNN stumbled as King’s ratings slipped and his replacement, Piers Morgan, performed even more poorly in the slot.

“New shows for the 9 p.m. hour include ‘Somebody's Gotta Do It,’ hosted by Mike Rowe, best known for his Discovery Channel series ‘Dirty Jobs.’ CNN said Rowe's new program will be a tribute to ‘innovators, do-gooders, entrepreneurs, collectors, fanatics — people who simply have to do it,’” the article reports.

The hour will also air “The Jesus Code,” which CNN described as an “archaeological journey through the Bible.” John Walsh of “America’s Most Wanted” will host a new CNN show called “The Hunt,” about criminal investigations, while Lisa Ling will also have a series, the story says.

“Erin Burnett Outfront” will continue to air at 7 p.m. and “Anderson Cooper 360” will air at 8 p.m.

CNN will debut a one-hour program called “CNN Tonight” at 10 p.m., the piece adds.
