An HBO drama series has set a ratings record for the pay-cable channel. Deadline.com reports that the drama series "True Detective" is now the channel's most-watched freshman series of all time.

"With delayed viewers factored in, the gross audience for HBO‘s buzzy new drama series 'True Detective' starring Matthew McConaughy and Woody Harrelson has risen to 11.9 million viewers per episode, making it the most-watched first-year series in HBO’s history," the story reports. "'True Detective' edged the previous record for first-year gross viewership held by 'Six Feet Under,' which averaged 11.4 million."

"True Detective" is also pacing ahead of the first-year results for "Game of Thrones," which went on to claim the record as HBO's most-watched series overall. "Thrones," now in its fourth season, averaged 14.4 million viewers in season three, the report notes.
