HLN Forms Strategic Alliance With Twitter -- Plans Include a 'Tweet DVR' TVWeek
Cable news channel HLN today announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with social media site Twitter to work toward creating an all-screen experience for news.
As part of the venture the two companies will try out ways of visualizing Twitter information on-air and will test the use of Twitter to engage audience members during the channel's coverage of midterm elections.
Making the announcement were Albie Hecht, executive vice president and general manager, HLN, and Vivian Schiller, head of news, Twitter.
"The partnership will include collaboration between HLN and Twitter on several projects, including piloting an innovative program to visualize Twitter data live on air in new and compelling ways," HLN said in its announcement. "The teams will work together to broadcast live visualizations of Twitter data simultaneously across television and digital platforms. During 2014, HLN will use Twitter to power trending segments on 'Morning Express with Robin Meade.'"
Among the initiatives the companies are developing is what they're calling a "Tweet DVR." "This save-for-later feature will capture the best live Tweets from television premieres and play them alongside digital video and TV replays of the same program," the release says. "HLN will unveil this Twitter-enhanced video experience in 2014."
