A comic book series in which zombies and vampires battle each other is in develoment for a television series. Deadline.com reports that Legendary Television and Digital Media have optioned the Avatar Press comic “The Extinction Parade,” from Max Brooks.

Brooks, the author of “World War Z” and “Zombie Survival Guide,” will work on the development of the project and write the pilot, the story says.

“‘Extinction Parade’ pits zombies against vampires in a world where the zombie plague has put the human race on the endangered species list, according to a description of the series on Avatar’s website,” Deadline notes. “Fearing the end of their food supply, the vastly outnumbered vampires enter into an all-out subdead war with the zombies, with humans caught in the crossfire.”

“I only brought the idea to one company, Legendary, because they do the kind of quality work of which any writer would be proud,” Brooks said.

Legendary has been expanding its TV and digital offerings after creating a TV unit last year, with Bruce Rosenblum leading the effort.
