One of the most iconic horror figures from film is getting ready for his debut in a small-screen series. Deadline.com reports that the character Jason Voorhees from the “Friday the 13th” movies will be the focus of an hourlong dramatic show.

Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment are working on a series based on the film’s original characters and settings.

The piece reports: “Bill Basso (‘Terminator’) and Jordu Schell (‘Avatar’) have been set to script a storyline that re-imagines Jason in multiple time periods. Roy Knyrim (‘Gods And Monsters’) of SOTA FX will coordinate the special makeup effects for the series. If you recall, the original was set at a summer camp, closed because of the drowning of an unattended child. Promiscuous counselors tried to re-open the place, but they began dying.”

The series will focus on characters from Crystal Lake who confront the killer, the story notes.

Sean S. Cunningham, the director of the original 1980 film, is an executive producer on the project. Said Cunningham: “Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide."
