Oprah Winfrey's OWN Sets Slate of New Projects, Including the Channel's First TV Movie LA Times

Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable network has taken the wraps off a new slate of projects, including its first-ever TV movie production, “My Name Is Love: The Darlene Love Story,” reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

“My Name Is Love” will star Grammy winner Toni Braxton as the backup singer Darlene Love, who was the subject of the documentary “20 Feet From Stardom,” which won an Oscar, the story notes.

The network is also developing a two-part miniseries called “Tulsa” that will feature Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer. “Tulsa” will focus on a deadly 1921 race riot that was covered up for years, the piece adds.

Other projects include “Belief,” a seven-part event series that will look at humanity’s search for faith, and “Single Moms Club,” a series from Tyler Perry based on a film released earlier this month.

In a press release, OWN President Erik Logan said: "Coming off our most-watched quarter in network history, we are excited to get to work on these new scripted projects with Octavia and Toni. By diversifying our programming, we are also growing our audience, and these new projects put us in a great position to take the network to the next level."
