“The X-Files” writer and producer Frank Spotnitz is working on a crime series built around the lead character Sigmund Freud, known as the father of psychoanalysis, for “Downton Abbey” producer Carnival Films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Freud: The Secret Casebook” will feature the historic figure as the world’s first criminal profiler, the story says. While the drama is in development, it hasn’t yet been ordered by a network.

The producers describe the show as “set in the glittering, but volatile world of early 20th century Vienna,” where “Freud will use his startling new theories about psychology to help solve crimes.” The drama will “blend episodic murder mysteries with the ongoing story of Freud's tangled and provocative personal life."

The executive producers include Gareth Neame of “Downton Abbey” and Alan Gasmer of “Vikings.”
