ABC More Than Doubles Its Closest Competition in Sunday Prime Time TVbytheNumbers
ABC had a dominating ratings win in Sunday prime time, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo. TVbytheNumbers.com reports that the network averaged more than double what its closest broadcast competitor delivered in the demo.
ABC's night was all about the Billboard Music Awards, which registered a 3.5 average in viewers 18-49 for its 8-11 p.m. broadcast. The closest any other program on broadcast could come was a 2.0 for Fox's "Family Guy." ABC's awards telecast equaled the number for last year's show.
ABC opened prime time with "America's Funniest Home Videos," which matched the 1.6 the show delivered last week in the 18-49 demo.
CBS was a distant second behind ABC for prime time overall, with its best 18-49 number being a 1.7 for the season finale of "The Amazing Race: All-Stars," the same number the show had a week ago. The finale of "The Mentalist" rose three-tenths to a 1.5, and the finale of "The Good Wife" equaled last week's number, a 1.2. CBS's "60 Minutes" rose two-tenths to a 1.3 average.
On Fox, "Family Guy's" 2.0 average represented a dip of one-tenth from a week ago in the 18-49 demo, while "The Simpsons" held steady with a 1.6. "Cosmos," "Bob's Burgers" and "American Dad" also matched their numbers from a week ago: a 1.2 for "Dad," a 1.1 for "Cosmos" and a 0.9 for "Bob's."
NBC found itself in fifth place for broadcast prime, trailing its big four counterparts and Univision. "Coldplay: Ghost Stories" managed only a 0.4 average in 18-49, while "American Dream Builders" hit a new series low, also a 0.4. A repeat of the two-hour special "The Women of SNL" pulled a 0.8 average.
For prime time overall, ABC's 3.0 average was the class of the field in the 18-49 demo, followed by CBS (1.4 average), Fox (1.3), Univision (0.9) and NBC (0.6). ABC took a narrow win in total viewers, averaging 9.5 million to CBS's 9.2 million, followed by Fox (3.0 million), Univision (2.4 million) and NBC (2.1 million).
