CBS has a ratings achievement to cheer about in a segment that doesn't get as much attention as prime time. TVNewser reports that “CBS News Sunday Morning” is wrapping up the 2013-14 season with a milestone, averaging 6 million viewers for the season — the biggest audience for a season since “the advent of people meters in 1987."

“The ratings stalwart was the top-rated Sunday morning news program in both total viewers and the A25-54 demographic, as usual," the report notes. "‘CBS Sunday Morning’ averaged 1.5/07 in the demo, building on its performance last season in both ratings metrics.”

The show is hosted by Charles Osgood, who took over from original host Charles Kuralt in 1994. In the May sweeps, the program pulled in 5.81 million viewers, 4% more than a year ago, also marking the highest-rated May sweeps for the show since 1987.

The program has been on the air since 1979.
