Comcast is “waging a campaign of shock and awe” in an effort to gain approval for its merger with Time Warner Cable, reports The Hill.

The company has added seven lobbying firms in an attempt to win approval for the deal, making it one of the biggest lobbyist teams “ever seen in Washington,” the piece notes.

Comcast’s lobbying team was already one of the city’s biggest, with 33 firms, and that number has now grown to 40 firms on its payroll. “The new hires have given Comcast extensive connections to federal agencies and congressional committees that are vetting the merger,” the story adds.

Lobbyists now working for Comcast include ex-aides for the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission, along with former officials in the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, the piece adds.
