Did Barbara Walters’ Final Day on ‘The View’ Set a Ratings Record?

Barbara Walters' farewell to "The View," predictably, drew a much larger audience than the typical episode. Deadline.com reports that the Walters farewell episode ranks as one of the show's most-watched installments in its history, but it fell far short of a record.

The show drew an average of 5.2 million viewers for her farewell, well below the show’s record 6.6 million viewers, who tuned in on July 29, 2010, for President Obama’s first visit to the daytime show.

The second-most-watched episode was the day after the 2008 presidential election, when 6.2 million viewers tuned in on Nov. 5, 2008. The show’s coverage of the East Coast’s 2009 “snowpocalypse” drew 5.233 million, just inching ahead of Walters’ final episode, the piece notes.

Still, her goodbye episode ranks as the fourth-most-watched installment in the show’s history.
