The broadcast networks aired a number of season finales Wednesday night, with decidedly mixed results, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that one bellwether program, "American Idol," was way down from the finale a year ago, falling a full ratings point in the 18-49 demo, from a 3.6 last year to a 2.6 last night. But the two-hour "Idol" was up a half-point from last week, and still did well enough to give Fox a win for the night in the demo.

CBS's two-hour "Survivor" finale earned a preliminary 2.5 average in 18-49, off slightly from a 2.6 last week and from a 2.7 for the spring finale last year, which aired on a Sunday. The report notes that "Survivor" ran over by 13 minutes, with the winner revealed in those final minutes — an indication that significant adjustments can be expected.

Leading out from "Survivor," the show's reunion special delivered a 2.0 in the 18-49 demo, down from a 2.2 last spring.

ABC's season finales of "The Middle" and "Modern Family" were up from last week. "The Middle" inched up one-tenth to a 2.0 in viewers 18-49, with "Modern Family" surging four-tenths to a 3.6. "Mixology's" series finale held steady with a 1.3.

ABC rolled out the second-season premiere of "Motive," which was well off the pace of a year ago. Wednesday night's program settled for a 0.9 in the 18-49 demo, down from a 1.3 for the series premiere.

NBC's series finale of "Revolution" matched the show's all-time low, a 1.1 average in adults 18-49, slipping one-tenth from a week ago. "Law & Order: SVU" equaled its 1.6 from last week, while "Chicago PD" ticked up one-tenth to a 1.6.

For prime time overall, Fox led the pack in the 18-49 demo with a 2.6 average, ahead of CBS (2.4 average), ABC (1.8), NBC (1.4) and Univision (1.1). Fox also won total viewers, averaging 10.1 million to lead CBS (8.9 million), ABC (6.2 million), NBC (5.6 million) and Univision (2.5 million).
