How NBC Dominated Tuesday Night

How dominant was NBC in the prime-time ratings for Tuesday night? The network more than doubled its closest broadcast rival in the key 18-49 demo for prime time overall, based on Nielsen overnights, with the Peacock's entire prime-time slate topping everything else on broadcast, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

Leading the charge was the two-hour season premiere of "America's Got Talent," which went head-to-head with the two-hour season premiere of "Extreme Weight Loss" and blew the ABC program out of the water. "Talent" bowed with a 3.0 average in the 18-49 demo, to "Extreme's" 1.3.

In the same two-hour block, repeats of "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" on CBS managed a 1.2 and a 1.1 average in 18-49, respectively, while Fox's prime-time lineup sputtered to a 0.6 for "Riot" — up 20% from its premiere — and a 0.4 for the fading "I Wanna Marry Harry" — off a whopping 43% from its premiere last week, when it led out from "American Idol."

The 10 p.m. series premiere of NBC's "The Night Shift" brought, if not more good news for the network, at least OK news, with a 1.6 average in viewers 18-49, good enough to win the hour against ABC's "Celebrity Wife Swap" (1.2 average, up 33% from its most recent episode) and a repeat of "Person of Interest" on CBS (0.8 average).

NBC's "Talent" premiere, as dominant as it was, came in 3% below the show's previous season premiere, when it had "The Voice" as a lead-in.

For prime time overall, NBC was the class of the field in the 18-49 demo with a 2.5 average, followed by ABC (1.2 average), Univision and CBS (both 1.1) and Fox (0.5). It was tighter in total viewers, but NBC still easily led with 10.5 million, ahead of CBS (7.5 million), ABC (3.8 million), Univision (2.9 million) and Fox (1.3 million).
