Just Days Before Her Retirement, Barbara Walters Scores a Big 'Get' Deadline, TVNewser

Barbara Walters “showed youngsters how it’s done” by landing one last big final “get” just days before her retirement, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com.

Walters interviewed V. Stiviano, the confidante of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who made racist comments in a taped conversation with her. Sterling’s comments led to a lifelong ban from the NBA and what will likely be a sale of the team.

“While Walters’ impressive list of interview subjects through the years includes such hard-to-get world figures as the Shah of Iran, Russia’s Vladimir Putin, China’s Jiang Zemin, Cuba’s Fidel Castro and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, she likely will be remembered for her celebrity chats and for landing exclusive interviews with headline-makers everyone is pursuing,” Andreeva writes.

The report adds: “It is fitting that one of her final interviews is with a young woman who is bringing down a powerful man," given that 15 years ago, one of her biggest gets was her sit-down with Monica Lewinsky, who almost brought down President Bill Clinton.

In the interview, Stiviano told Walters she thinks Sterling should apologize, according to TVNewser. Asked whether Sterling will take that step, Stiviano answered, “Only God knows.”
