Monday Ratings: Competition Finales, a Reality Premiere and a New NBC Show Starring an 'SNL' Veteran TVbytheNumbers

Monday was a night for transitions on the broadcast networks, with a pair of big franchise competition shows airing portions of their season finales while another franchise reality show premiered its latest cycle and a new show debuted on NBC featuring "Saturday Night Live" alumna Maya Rudolph.

When all was said and done, NBC rolled to a comfortable win in the key demo of adults 18-49, while ABC inched ahead in total viewers, based on Nielsen overnights.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that NBC's two-hour performance finale of "The Voice" was the highest-rated show of the night in the 18-49 demo with a 3.1 average, ticking up one-tenth from the show's number a week ago, but well off the pace of the spring performance finale a year ago, which registered a 3.7.

NBC's new variety hour "The Maya Rudolph Show" -- officially a special -- delivered a respectable 2.2 average in the 10 p.m. slot for its premiere.

Going head-to-head with "The Voice," ABC's 90-minute "Dancing with the Stars" competition rose two-tenths of a ratings point from last week to a 2.5 average, matching the finale from last spring. "Dancing" was by far the top show of the night in total viewers, delivering 15.05 million to second-place "The Voice's" 11.48 million.

Leading out from "Dancing," ABC's "The Bachelorette" premiered with a 1.9 average in 18-49 for the 90-minute program -- equaling the show's premiere low.

Fox's "24: Live Another Day" lost ground, falling three-tenths from last week to a 1.7 average in the 18-49 demo, while "Bones" ticked down one-tenth to a 1.6.

CBS aired a mix of repeats and originals, finishing fourth among the big four broadcast nets. Among its fresh programs, "Friends With Better Lives" equaled its 1.6 in viewers 18-49 from a week ago, and "Mike & Molly" slipped one-tenth to a 1.9.

For prime time overall, NBC led the way in the 18-49 demo with a 2.8 average rating, ahead of ABC (2.2 average), Fox (1.6), CBS (1.5) and Univision (1.1). ABC led total viewers with 11.0 million, followed by NBC (10.1 million), Fox (5.83 million), CBS (5.76 million) and Univision (2.6 million).
