Online streaming service Netflix is reportedly closing in on a deal to create a drama series with Academy Award nominees Peter Morgan and Stephen Daldry, which would be based on their play “The Audience,” according to EW.com’s Inside TV.

The royal drama, called “The Crown,” will be written by Morgan and directed by Daldry. The play starred Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II, her second time playing the monarch. She won an Oscar for playing the queen in Morgan’s 2006 film “The Queen.”

The series will be produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Morgan has earned Oscar nominations for adapting his play “Frost/Nixon” and writing the original screenplay for “The Queen,” while Daldry earned his for directing “The Reader,” “The Hours” and “Billy Elliot.”
